With reference to your letter of the 30th ultimo (29106/22), relative to the proposed Bub-lease of the Yamen at Canton, I am directed by the First Commissioner of His Majesty's Works, etc..

to enclose, for the information of Vr. Secretary Churchill, a copy of a report furnished by the Board's local representative outlining the terms under which it is suggested that the sub-lease should be granted to the Goverment of Hong Kong. In view of the terms of the Treasury letter (S/14289) of the 17th ultimo, the Board's local representative has now been instructed by telegram to complete the matter on the lines of his report, subject to the proviso made in the last paragraph of the Treasury Letter referred to.

A further communication giving details of the completed arrangements will be addressed to you on receipt of the Board's local representative's final report.
